Psalm 138:8 AMP – “The LORD will accomplish that which concerns me.”
It can seem natural to have our own ideas, to make decisions we think will be best, to form opinions, and to assume we understand God’s purposes. David made some decisions based on his subjective understanding. Eventually, he realized that he needed to trust God, that He always knows what’s best.
The Bible makes it clear that God sees beyond our temporary situations. He constantly chisels away at our character, like an expert sculptor refining his creations to eliminate impurities, achieve the best results, and direct us in ways that would be best. We might be content with good enough, but God knows our potential and what would be best. He knows that no matter how much we improve, we can still do better.
No matter how much we know, we can learn much more. No matter what we have done, we can do more. No matter what successes we have achieved, even greater successes are possible. No matter what we think we understand, the Bible reminds us that we see everything “imperfectly,” and that all we know now is “partial and incomplete.” But God knows us “completely” (1 Corinthians 13:12 NLT). Realize that God is working to bring you to an expected end, and even when you don’t fully understand have confidence in Him.
