Phillipians 3:3- “ For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.”
In the Gospel of John Jesus reveals that the Father seeks worshippers that will worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. Jesus here shows us the ideal way that God desires to relate with man, in Spirit and in Truth. What does it mean to worship God in Spirit and Truth?
Jesus Christ is the Truth, His sacrifice for our salvation is the Truth we are to depend on. In Christ the truth or reality of God’s intention before the fall and the truth of our existence is revealed. It is only in this event that we know who He is and who we are in Him. Just as the circumcision of the flesh in the Old Testament was a seal of worship, so is His resurrection the circumcision of our spirit; the seal of our worship in the New.
When we put away all religious ordinances, practices and positions we fully depend on just Christ’s death, burial and resurrection for our salvation and worth. God rejoices over us when we fully embrace this grace; Christ’s finished work alone. In this is the Spirit, which is also the truth (reality) that our union is found and we enjoy the fullness of Him all in all.
